Comparison

DeepSpace vs. Liveblocks

Published October 1, 2026 · Updated October 1, 2026

DeepSpace and Liveblocks both give apps real-time collaboration: presence, live cursors, shared state, and Yjs-based text editing. Liveblocks adds collaboration to an app you already build and host elsewhere. DeepSpace is a full app platform that also includes the database, sign-in, payments, and hosting.

This comparison covers collaboration features, data, auth, payments, hosting, pricing, and AI-agent workflows. Liveblocks claims were checked against its public docs and pricing as of October 2026.

What is DeepSpace?

DeepSpace is a full-stack SDK and hosting platform for real-time React and TypeScript apps. One npm package, deepspace, includes a real-time database, sign-in, presence, collaborative editing, file storage, and Stripe payments. One command, npx deepspace deploy, puts the frontend and backend live at <name>.app.space.

DeepSpace is designed for AI coding agents. New projects include an agent skill, and CLI commands can return JSON. Permission checks, identity verification, and payment flows are handled inside the SDK, so agents do not rewrite them for each project.

What is Liveblocks?

Liveblocks describes itself as "the realtime infrastructure to handle concurrent edits on shared data, so people and AI agents can collaborate without breaking your app." Its products are Sync, Comments, and Notifications.

Liveblocks works with Yjs and has integrations for the Tiptap, Lexical, and BlockNote editors, React Flow, Redux, and Zustand. Its client libraries are open source under Apache 2.0, and its server is open source under AGPL-3.0. As of October 2026, Liveblocks does not offer self-hosting for production.

What is the main difference between DeepSpace and Liveblocks?

The main difference is scope. Liveblocks is a collaboration layer that you add to an app with its own database, auth, and hosting. DeepSpace is the whole app platform, with collaboration built in.

FeatureDeepSpaceLiveblocks
What it isFull-stack app platform (SDK and hosting)Real-time collaboration infrastructure for your app
Frontend hostingIncluded; apps deploy to <name>.app.spaceNot offered; works with any host
App databaseTyped collections with real-time queriesRoom-scoped shared state; your main database is separate
Presence and cursorsPresence and cursor hooksPresence and cursors, with prebuilt React UI
Collaborative textYjs, with a Tiptap editor add-onYjs, with Tiptap, Lexical, and BlockNote integrations
Comments and notificationsNot prebuiltPrebuilt Comments and Notifications products
User sign-inBuilt in: Google and GitHub sign-inNot included; you authenticate users in your own backend
PaymentsBuilt-in Stripe subscriptions, one-time products, and refundsNot included

Liveblocks has more prebuilt collaboration UI, and it fits into any stack. DeepSpace includes the parts of the app around collaboration, so there are fewer services to connect.

How do DeepSpace and Liveblocks handle real-time collaboration?

Both handle presence, live cursors, shared state, and collaborative text. Liveblocks has the deeper set of collaboration features. It offers prebuilt Comments and Notifications, React UI components, and integrations for several editors and React Flow.

In DeepSpace, the usePresence and usePresenceRoom hooks show who is online and broadcast cursors and typing state. Collaborative text runs on Yjs. A Tiptap editor and a shared canvas with undo and redo are available as add-on features. DeepSpace also includes public chat channels with reactions and read receipts.

Do you need a separate database and backend with Liveblocks?

Usually yes. Liveblocks stores shared state for each collaboration room. Your users, accounts, and other app data live in your own database and backend.

DeepSpace includes the app database. Each collection is a typed table, and the useQuery hook keeps components in sync over a WebSocket. Queries filter by exact match, sort, and limit. For full SQL, a DeepSpace app can attach a Cloudflare D1 database. Scheduled tasks, background jobs, and your own API routes run in the same Cloudflare Worker.

How do DeepSpace and Liveblocks auth and permissions compare?

Liveblocks does not include user sign-in. You authenticate users in your own backend and give Liveblocks a token that identifies them. Liveblocks then applies access permissions for each room.

DeepSpace includes Google and GitHub sign-in, and the platform manages sessions. Permissions are role-based rules, such as viewer, member, and admin, declared next to each collection's schema and enforced on the server.

Can you accept payments with DeepSpace or Liveblocks?

DeepSpace has payments built in. You declare subscription plans and one-time products in code, and they sync to Stripe when you deploy. Hooks and a pricing table component handle checkout. Server helpers check subscriptions and handle refunds and cancellations.

Liveblocks does not handle payments. With Liveblocks, billing is part of your own backend.

Is DeepSpace or Liveblocks better for AI coding agents?

Both support coding agents. Liveblocks offers an MCP server and agent skills. Its product also treats AI agents as collaborators that edit shared data next to people.

A DeepSpace project includes an agent skill, and the CLI returns JSON for scripting. An agent can build and deploy the frontend, backend, sign-in, and payments together. You connect a Stripe account once before taking payments. With Liveblocks, the agent also has to set up the database, auth, and hosting.

How do DeepSpace and Liveblocks pricing compare?

Both have free plans. DeepSpace is free to start building and deploying, and paid plans add more deployed apps and usage.

As of October 2026, the Liveblocks free plan includes 3,000 collaboration minutes, 200 comments, and up to 10 simultaneous connections per room. Pro starts at $30 per month, and Team starts at $600 per month. Usage is metered, for example $0.002 per collaboration minute and $0.01 per comment. The database, auth, and hosting that run next to Liveblocks are billed separately.

When should you choose Liveblocks instead of DeepSpace?

Choose Liveblocks when you already have an app and want to add collaboration to it. It is also the better fit when you want prebuilt comments, notifications, or editor integrations, or when your frontend, backend, and auth are already decided.

Consider DeepSpace when you are building a new real-time app and want the database, sign-in, payments, and hosting on one platform with collaboration included.

Frequently asked questions

Is DeepSpace an alternative to Liveblocks?

Yes, for new real-time web apps. DeepSpace includes presence, cursors, and Yjs collaborative text, plus the database, sign-in, payments, and hosting. It does not include prebuilt comments or notifications.

Does Liveblocks include user authentication?

No. You authenticate users in your own backend and pass Liveblocks a token that identifies them. DeepSpace includes Google and GitHub sign-in.

Can you self-host Liveblocks?

Not for production as of October 2026. Liveblocks open-sourced its server under AGPL-3.0, but it does not yet offer self-hosting. DeepSpace does not offer self-hosting either.

Do DeepSpace and Liveblocks both have free plans?

Yes. DeepSpace is free to start building and deploying. The Liveblocks free plan includes 3,000 collaboration minutes and up to 10 simultaneous connections per room as of October 2026.

How do you start building with DeepSpace?

Start from the get started page. You describe the app there and copy the prompt into your coding agent. The agent builds the app and can deploy it to a live URL. The docs cover the SDK in detail.
